The computer has mains voltage input and a power supply unit, which is connected with the mains voltage input and by which two supply voltages are provided. A monitor terminal supplies a mains voltage to monitor. The monitor terminal is connected by a relay with the mains voltage. A control unit (13) is adjusted to supply two supply voltages during two periods to a control terminal of the relay after switching on a computer. The latter supply voltage is lesser than the former supply voltage. An independent claim is also included for a method for the operation of a computer.
