The present invention relates to a process for the preparation of a biodegradable composite substrate for the growth of plants with gamic or agamic propagation, which comprises mixing for a short period of time a matrix of a natural origin, water and a selected polyurethane prepolymer with a low reactivity to form a paste which rapidly hardens forming open cells (macroporosity) and binds the natural matrix.
