It is intended to provide a method whereby genes are rationally classified by analyzing information and data thereof. This object can be achieved by applying cluster analysis to the calculation of the degradation rates and apparent synthesis rates of gene transcription products and the subsequent calculation of the net synthesis rates of the gene transcription products from the apparent synthesis rates and degradation rates thereof. Namely, a method of classifying a plurality of genes which comprises: A) the step of calculating the degradation rates and apparent synthesis rates of transcription products of the genes and then calculating the net synthesis rates of the gene transcription products from the apparent synthesis rates and degradation rates thereof; B) the step of clustering the wave pattern of the net synthesis rates; and C) the step of, based on the results of the clustering, referring genes belonging to the same cluster as genes having at least one characteristic in common.
