Technology for using a catalyst in the cracking of waste plastic is improved so as to attain satisfactory contact of the catalyst with any vapor phase component generated from waste plastic. There is disclosed a waste plastic cracking apparatus having a cylindrical container (110) surrounded by a heat insulating material (200). Waste plastic is fed into the container (110) from a first hopper (120). The container (110) can be heated by a burner (220), and the waste plastic is converted in the container (110) to a liquid phase component and further to a vapor phase component. The vapor phase component is recovered from either a first outlet duct (116) or a second outlet duct (144). The liquid phase component generated in the container (110) is regulated not to rise beyond dashed line X. The space extending over the upside of the liquid phase component is provided with a perforated delivery pipe (140) adapted to have a catalyst for accelerating of the cracking of the vapor phase component, fed from a second hopper (150), delivered through the interior thereof. The chlorine contained in the vapor phase component is brought into contact with the catalyst delivered through the interior of the delivery pipe (140) and decomposed thereby.
