A foundation structure for retaining wall and other structures laid on a foundation ground. A concave is formed in the foundation ground. A slide resistor is disposed in the concave, and at least the anterior side of the slide resistor is filled with a grain size material to thereby form a grain size material layer. The internal frictional angle of the grain size material constituting the grain size material layer is as large as or greater than that of the primitive ground material supporting the grain size material layer, so that the grain size material layer exerts a reactive force (passive) via the slide resistor, thereby strengthening the slide resistance of any structure laid on the grain size material layer. Thus, there can be provided a retaining wall excelling in slide resisting capability.
