This object is achieved using an existing water injecting technology used in precalciners for NOx control. The inventive method comprises the step of injecting water into the precalciner to control the temperature.;Thanks to considerably different time horizons of the NOx control on one side and the temperature control on the other side, the two objectives can be achieved in parallel. The short term variations on the water injection for temperature control purposes are superposed to the long term water injections necessary to provide appropriate NOx control.
