Method and apparatus for automatically identifying regions of interest in a digital map

A method for automatically identifying one or more regions of interest in a digital map, whereas a plurality of individual locations in said map have been tagged with descriptive tags by different users to semantically identify the meaning of these locations, said method comprising:defining a search area within the digital map within which the search for regions of interest should be executed;defining one or more type of tags to which the location tags which are to be found should belong;applying a clustering algorithm to identify one or more clusters as regions of interest where those locations are grouped or concentrating which have been tagged by different users with tags of the type defined in said defining operation;displaying the one or more regions of interest found by said clustering algorithm together with an indication of locations having tags of said predetermined type within said digital map.
