摘要

A composition comprising the methanol extract of Smilacis chinae rhizome is provided to protect brain nerve cells from an amyloid beta protein(Abeta) causing neurodegenerative disorders without side effects, thereby preventing and treating neurodegenerative disorders. A composition for neuroprotection or for prevention and treatment of neurodegenerative disorders comprises the methanol extract of Smilacis chinae rhizome, wherein the daily dosage of methanol extract of Smilacis chinae rhizome is 1-1000 mg/kg; and the neurodegenerative disorders include Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's disease, progressive supranuclear palsy, multiple system atrophy, olivopontocerebellar atrophy(OPCA), Shy-Drager syndrome, striatonigral degeneration, Huntington's disease, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis(ALS), essential tremor, cortico-basal ganglionic degeneration, diffuse lewy body disease, Parkinson-ALS-dementia complex of Guam and Pick's disease.
