An apparatus and a method for fastening a bolt in a high speed tensile tester are provided to apply a fixing force according to a test specimen and thus to obtain accurate data without speed variation. An apparatus for fastening a bolt includes a fixing part(11), a coupling part, a detector(23), and a controller. The fixing part(11) is installed in the vicinity of a grip on which bolts are mounted, and moves back and forth to grasp the bolt. The fastening part rotates the bolt in the fastening direction up to a predetermined fastening force. The detector(23) is installed at the fastening part to detect the fastening force. The controller stops the operation of the fastening part when the fastening force reaches the predetermined fastening force.
