A DEVICE AND OPERATING METHODS OF POWER SAVING WITH HANDOFF FOR DUAL MODE MOBILE-PHONE

A power saving device of a dual-mode terminal and an operation method are provided to prevent unnecessary power consumption by setting an unoperated module to a sleep state and to convert the module into an activated state by handoff control, thereby preventing power consumption and wrong operation. An RF(Radio Frequency) unit(100) selectively transceives an RF signal by being selectively activated. A baseband unit(200) selectively provides power to a CDMA(Code Division Multiple Access) module(210) or a WCDMA(Wideband CDMA) module(250) by a control signal of a central controller(300) to convert one of the CDMA module(210) and the WCDMA module(250) into an activated state, and modulates/demodulates a baseband signal by using the activated module. The controller(300) receives and analyzes CDMA mobile communication network and WCDMA mobile communication network signals, and converts a sleep module into an activated state so that the activated module is handed off, if a signal of the activated module is less than a threshold value.
