PURPOSE: A unified messaging service and a method for controlling the same are provided to realize a business model for improving a UMS service provided to subscribers in various aspects. CONSTITUTION: A UMS phone number allocating unit allocates a specific UMS phone number to a plurality of subscribers. A recording unit records a desired phone number for the UMS phone number allocated to each subscriber. A call conversion unit searches the desired phone number recorded on the recording unit for each UMS phone number by the corresponding subscriber and converts a call from the UMS phone number into the desired phone number recorded by the subscriber, when a caller makes a call to an arbitrary UMS phone number through a telephone network and requests for a direct call to the owner of the corresponding UMS phone number.
