NOVEL DINUCLEAR CHIRAL SALEN CATALYST AND METHOD FOR THE SYNTHESIS OF CHIRAL COMPOUNDS USING THE SAME

A dinuclear chiral salen complex is provided to be used for mass-producing a high valued chiral epoxide or a chiral 1,2-diol having high optical activity with high yield from various cheap racemic epoxides and maintain an initial catalytic activity after use. A dinuclear chiral salen complex is represented by the formula(1) of Sal-LA-Sal, wherein each of two Sals is independently a complex obtained by a coordinate covalent bond of a chiral salen ligand and a transition metal, and LA is a neutral metal compound selected from the group consisting of a neutral gallium compound, a neutral indium compound and a neutral tellurium compound and is chemically bonded to each of the two Sals and is sandwiched by two Sal coordination complexes. A method for preparing the dinuclear chiral salen complex or a solvate thereof comprises a step of reacting the neutral metal compound with two equivalents of the salen ligand-transition metal coordination complex in the presence of a solvent.
