A COMPOSITION COMPRISING NOVEL 6'-O-VANILLYLOXYPAEONIFLORIN ISOLATED FROM AN EXTRACT OF MOUTAN CORTEX RADICIS HAVING ANTIBACTERIAL EFFECT

A composition comprising 6-O-vanillyloxypaeoniflorin isolated from the extract of Moutan Cortex Radicis is provided to inhibit growth of bacteria causing zoonosis without side effects on human and animals, and reduce resistance against antibiotic drugs. An antibacterial composition for inhibiting the growth of zoonosis-causing bacteria comprises 6-O-vanillyloxypaeoniflorin represented by the formula(1) which is prepared by extracting Moutan Cortex Radicis with a solvent selected from water, ethanol, butanol, hexane, chloroform, dichloromethane and ethyl acetate to prepare the extract of Moutan Cortex Radicis, and subjecting the extract of Moutan Cortex Radicis to sephadex column chromatography, or its pharmaceutically acceptable salts, wherein the subject animals for zoonosis include pig, cow, goat, carp, goldfish, pheasant, chicken, duck and turkey.
