A pure tone audiometer with automatic masking is provided to prevent and early detect deafness without help of a doctor or an expert by accurately calculating an air conduction hearing threshold and a bone conduction hearing threshold. A display unit(10) displays directions of use and results of a pure tone hearing test. A sound generating circuit(20) generates an electrical signal according to a control signal. An output unit(30) generates pure tones or noises for the pure tone hearing test according to the electrical signal of the sound generating circuit. An input unit(40) inputs a user's response to the sound generated in the output unit. An air conduction hearing test unit(50) performs the pure tone hearing test for the sound transmitted through an external auditory meatus by adjusting the sound according to the user's response. A bone conduction hearing test unit(60) performs the pure tone hearing test for the sound transmitted through a skull by adjusting the sound according to the user's response. A masking test unit(70) performs the hearing test by transmitting masking sound to an ear with good hearing and transmitting pure tone to an ear with bad hearing in case that a difference of hearing between both ears is over 35 decibels and a difference between an air conduction hearing threshold of the ear with bad hearing and a bone conduction hearing threshold of the ear with good hearing is over 15 decibels. A control unit(80) transmits the control signal to the sound generating circuit, transmits the user's response to the air conduction hearing test unit, the bone conduction hearing test unit, and the masking test unit, and transmits the control signal to the display unit to display the directions of use and the results of the test.
