A device for transceiving binary data in an SMS(Short Message Service) system and a method thereof are provided to enable a transmission device to transmit binary data by converting the binary data into an area which is not defined as a character from a standard which expresses a character string, so that the data is not expressed as a character, thereby preventing meaningless character strings from being outputted to a display of a receiving device. Conversion binary data for converting binary data into an area which is not defined as a character from a standard which expresses a character string is generated to prevent the binary data to be transmitted from being expressed as a character(300,302). A short message including the conversion binary data is generated(304). The generated short message is transmitted(306). The short message contains a message header, a guide character string, ID information, and the conversion binary data.
