An authentication apparatus for preventing the exposure of a password by recognizing repeated password input is provided to recognize the repeated input of password and perform authentication by comparing the digit and array of inputted password with the stored authentication information and the stored numeral array when the password is inputted repeatedly. An authentication apparatus comprises a button key input unit(110), an authentication control unit(120), an authentication data storing unit(130), an apparatus control unit(140) and a power supply unit(150). The button key input unit creates authentication data including a password by accepting the password input, and transmits the authentication data to the authentication control unit. The authentication control unit comprises an MPU(Micro Processor Unit) and connected with the button key input unit, the authentication data storing unit and the apparatus control unit. The authentication control unit performs an authentication procedure by comparing the input authentication data received from the button key input unit and the authentication data stored in the authentication data storing unit, and transmits the authentication result to the apparatus control unit as an authentication success signal or a fail signal.
