A polymorphic marker for prediction of osteoporosis is provided to predict and prevent osteoporosis by measuring polymorphism and haplotype of catalase gene associated with bone density and osteocalcin concentration in serum. A catalase polymorphic marker for prediction of osteoporosis is a polynucleotide consisting of 20-100 consecutive DNA sequences containing +22348th base from the transcription-starting point of catalase gene in which the +22348th base is T(thymine). A catalase haplotype marker for prediction of osteoporosis contains -20th base T, +114th base C, +22348th base T and +33078th base A from the transcription-starting point of catalase gene. A method for predicting osteoporosis comprises the steps of: isolating genomic DNA from the blood sample of a test person; detecting the polymorphism region in the marker present in the genomic DNA; and analyzing the relation between the detected polymorphism region and osteoporosis phenotype. A kit for predicting osteoporosis contains a primer pair capable of amplifying +22348CT of catalase gene, having the nucleotide sequence of SEQ ID NO:1 to SEQ ID NO:4.
