An apparatus and a method for transmission and reception in a multi-user multi-antenna communication system and a subcarrier structure are provided to enable a receiver to detect Rx data, without transmitting a beamforming pilot signal for each receiver or each of the antennas of a receiver through a dedicated channel. A transmitter in a multi-user multi-antenna communication system calculates Rx filters for a plurality of receivers respectively. Based on a Tx filter code book, the transmitter selects vectors which correlate with the calculated Rx filters. The transmitter determines the indexes of the selected vectors as Rx filter indexes. Then the transmitter transmits each of the determined Rx filter index to each corresponding receiver. The transmitter locates a pilot subcarrier modulated into the Rx filter for the receiver. The transmitter includes the Rx filters for the other receivers in data subcarriers for them respectively.
