A method for providing metadata, a multimedia contents providing server, and a method and a web-hard server for managing files with the same are provided to minimize personal or social expenses by providing the correct metadata for various multimedia files accessible through the Internet. A database(11) stores multimedia files including multimedia data and metadata. A transceiver(12) receives audio information of a predetermined length, a time code corresponding to a playback section of the audio information, and an entire playback time from the external application. A sound source detector(13) extracts a multimedia file, which corresponds to the playback time within an allowance level of a difference between the playback time and the entire playback time, from the database. A similarity calculator(14) calculates similarity to the received audio information by extracting audio data corresponding to the time code from the extracted multimedia file. A sound source determiner(15) determines the most similar audio data based on the similarity and transmits the metadata of the multimedia file including the determined audio data to the external application through the transceiver.
