METHOD OF IMPROVEMENT TONE QUALITY FOR INTERNET PHONE WITH LINUX OPERATING SYSTEM

A method for improving the speech quality of a VoIP(Voice over Internet Protocol) phone which uses a Linux OS(Operating System) is provided to offer better speech quality by enabling a Linux kernel to process voice data exactly at a DSP(Digital Signal Processor) decoding interrupt time. If packet data are received to a Linux OS(40), an RTP filter(42) in the Linux OS judges whether the received packet data are voice data or call processing data. In case the received packet data are voice data, the RTP filter removes header information from the packet data at a network device driver interrupt time and stores only voice data in an RTP ring buffer(44). Then the RTP filter provides the voice data, stored in the RTP ring buffer, to a DSP device driver(56) so that the voice data can be regenerated at a DSP decoding interrupt time.
