A method for accurately forecasting a roll force considering dog bone caused by widthwise rolling during the rough rolling process in a rolling apparatus is provided. A method for forecasting a horizontal roll force of rough rolling considering width reduction comprises the processes of: inputting set process conditions; deriving effective process conditions considering a dog bone shape using the set process conditions; and forecasting a roll force on the rough rolling from the derived effective process conditions. The process of deriving the effective process conditions considering the dog bone shape comprises obtaining a cross-sectional area of an inlet dog bone caused by widthwise rolling to calculate an effective inlet thickness. The effective inlet thickness is calculated through the mathematical expression, H'1=H2p.Wp/{W.(1+epsilonL)}, where H2p is thickness of an outlet bar of a previous final horizontal rolling pass, Wp is width of the outlet bar of the previous final horizontal rolling pass, and epsilonL is elongation of the bar in the rolling length direction caused by widthwise rolling. The process of forecasting a roll force on the rough rolling from the derived effective process conditions comprises deriving a horizontal rolling roll force model equation to which the calculated effective inlet thickness is applied.
