DRIVER APPARATUS FOR BLU AND METHOD FOR OPERATING THE SAME

An apparatus for driving a backlight unit and a method for operating the same are provided to adjust the luminance of an LCD module to a target luminance value at once by installing a total current control module in an LED(Light-Emitting Diode) driving part. An apparatus for driving a backlight unit comprises an LED array(20), a luminance measurement part(23), and an LED driving part(22). The LED array comprises a plurality of LED elements as light sources of an LCD module. The luminance measurement part measures the luminance of the LCD module. In case the measured luminance value is not identical to a target luminance value, the LED driving part increases or decreases the driving current of each LED element identically in proportion to the difference. The LED driving part consists of an individual current control module(24) and a total current control module(25). The individual current control module individually supplies an identical driving current to every LED element. The total current control module executes a control operation to increase or decrease the driving current of each LED element in a lump.
