APPARATUS AND METHOD FOR PROCESSING HANDOVER OF MOBILE RELAY STATION CONSIDERING PREAMBLE REASSIGNMENT IN A MULTI-HOP RELAY BROADBAND WIRELESS ACCESS COMMUNICATION SYSTEM

A device for processing a preamble change of a mobile relay station in a broadband wireless access communication system by using a multi-hop relay mode and a method therefor are provided to suggest a method for sending a new preamble as continuously ensuring communication continuity for a lower node included in a service area of the relay station, thereby offering a service to the lower node without disconnection. A mobile relay station receives a handover response message from a serving base station(601), and sends a handover indication message to the base station(603). The relay station receives time information for sending a new preamble from the base station(605), and decides whether it is time for sending the new preamble(607). If so, the relay station lowers transmission power of the currently transmitted preamble(609), and measures signal strength for the current preamble and the new preamble by receiving both of the preambles(611). The relay station performs handover to the new preamble.
