A method is provided to remove lead or bismuth from the copper alloy by adding rare earth metal or misch metal in a copper alloy melt manufactured in the form of a master alloy, forming an intermetallic compound in a solid state between lead or bismuth and rare earth metal, and removing the intermetallic compound from the melt. A method of removing lead or bismuth from a copper alloy comprises: a copper alloy preparing step(S1) of preparing a copper alloy scrap comprising lead(Pb) or bismuth(Bi); a master alloy manufacturing step(S2) of performing a solid solution process of rare earth metal or misch metal into copper to manufacture a master alloy; an intermetallic compound forming step(S3) of melting the copper alloy scrap to form a copper alloy melt, and adding the master alloy into the melt to form an intermetallic compound between lead or bismuth in the melt and the rare earth metal or the misch metal; and an intermetallic compound removing step(S4) of removing the intermetallic compound that has been formed in the intermetallic compound forming step from the melt. The rare earth metal of the master alloy manufacturing step comprises at least one element of cerium(Ce), lanthanium(La), neodymium(Nd), and yttrium(Y), and the misch metal of the master alloy manufacturing step comprises at least one element of cerium(Ce), lanthanium(La), and neodymium(Nd).
