A variable gain amplifier for achieving variable gain amplification with high bandwidth and linearity and a method thereof are provided to achieve the gain amplification with fine granularity expediting high bandwidth and high linearity. According to a variable gain amplifier(VGA) with high bandwidth and fine granularity, a gain block(102) includes at least one of an input node, a low gain output tap and a high gain output tap. A parallel gain block(112) includes a low gain signal path and a high gain signal path. The low gain signal path and the high gain signal path are connected to the low gain output tap and the high gain output tap of the gain block. A gain adjustment control part adjusts gain of the VGA. The gain adjustment control part enables the low gain path or the high gain path of the parallel gain path selectively, to obtain desired total gain.
