A digital image processing device and a method for positioning a supplementary application UI(User Interface) on a screen of a digital image processing device are provided to detect a suitable area for which the supplementary application UI is located in, and output the supplementary application UI on the suitable area, thereby minimizing influence on a main application. A main application is executed(S201). When a cursor is moved to an input window by a user, a region for positioning a supplementary application UI on a screen is searched(S202,S203). It is checked whether the searched region is suitable for the supplementary application UI to be positioned(S204). If the searched region is determined as a suitable region, the supplementary application UI is outputted to the corresponding region of the screen. In determining whether the searched region is suitable, information about an arbitrary region is obtained from a previously prepared preferential search region information table, and then main application screen information with respect to the arbitrary region is analyzed to check whether a character string can be outputted or components can be disposed in the corresponding region.
