A PON(Passive Optical Network) system for cable TV is provided to accept more subscribers through existing optical cables, without the necessity of installing new optical cables, by converting the broadcast signals and IP data of an identical band into wavelengths of respectively different bands and transmitting them through one or more optical cables. A PON system for cable TV comprises the first transmitters(31a-35a), the first wavelength converters(41-44), the first MUX(51a), the first DEMUX(51b), the second receivers(61b-65b), the second transmitters(61a-65a), the second wavelength converters(71-74), the second MUX(53a), the second DEMUX(53b), and the first receivers(31b-35b). The first transmitters(31a-35a) receive broadcast signals and IP data having an identical wavelength. The first wavelength converters(41-44) convert the received broadcast signals into respectively different wavelengths. The first MUX(51a) packages downlink data and downlinks the data to the subscriber side through the first optical cable. The first DEMUX(51b) disassembles the downlink data. The second receivers(61b-65b) transmit the broadcast signals and IP data transmitted from the first DEMUX to the subscriber side. The second transmitters(61a-65a) transmit the IP data, transmitted from subscriber terminals, to the service provider side. The second wavelength converters(71-74) convert the IP data into respectively different wavelengths. The second MUX(53a) receives IP data from one of the second transmitters and many of the second wavelength converters and uplinks the received IP data to the service provider side through the second optical cable. The second DEMUX(53b) unpackages the uplink data transmitted through the second optical cable. The first receivers(31b-35b) transmit the IP data, transmitted from the second DEMUX, to service providers.
