A vibration control system using a squeeze type smart MR(magneto-rheological) fluid damper for a civil structure is provided to improve vibration control by separating a electromagnetic part from a piston and a cylinder completely. A vibration control system for a civil structure includes plural measuring instruments distributed at predetermined positions of an object structure for vibration control and measuring responses of the structure, a real time signal processor receiving an analog signal from each measuring instrument and converting it into a digital signal and outputting the converted signal in real time, a controller performing a predetermined control algorithm using the signal input through the real time signal processor as an input, a current supply unit controlling the magnitude of current according to a control signal from the real time signal processor and supplying the controlled current, and plural squeeze type smart MR fluid dampers(100) distributed at predetermined positions of the structure for vibration control and absorbing vibration of the structure according to the magnitude of current supplied from the current supply unit, thereby providing damping force to the structure.
