A spatial light modulator for processing optical information and a method of representing a pattern for processing optical information using the same are provided to process the optical information in multiple ways by recording and reproducing a reference beam and a signal beam with a coaxial optical system and controlling a reference beam pattern of a light modulator. A spatial light modulator(130) for processing optical information includes data representing a signal beam pattern(131) of a two dimensional page type and a reference beam pattern(132) of a herring bone pattern formed around the signal beam pattern. The two dimensional page type signal beam pattern includes sub blocks which contains identifying marks for the sub blocks respectively.
