FIELD: metallurgy.;SUBSTANCE: relating to metallurgy and mechanic engineering, the invention can be used for the thermal processing of metals (melting, reheating under deformation and thermal processing), as well as when these are burnt, dried and processed by any other thermal methods with applications of such non-metallic products as, for instance, ceramics. The methods of thermal processing and burning of a mixture of the liquid and gaseous fuel and heated air inside the combustion furnace of either direct or indirect reheating consists of burning of the mixture obtained from fuel and heated air when the values of an excess air factor () in the mixture of fuel and heated air exceed the value of 2.0 and are set predominantly within the range reaching up to 6.0. The heating mechanisms include burners and the system of heating and air delivery into them in such a quantity that provides the value of an excess air factor () within the mixture of fuel and heated air, exceeding the value of 2.0, and set predominantly within the range reaching up to 6.0; while the regenerative capping include an internal space equipped with two prefatory and excurrent windows. These are filled with a layer of heat conductive elements whose volume can be calculated according to the given correlations that take into due consideration the excess air factor and fuel consumption. Herewith, the said excess air factor () within the mixture of fuel and heated air chosen depending upon the processing regime in the combustion furnace exceeds the value of 2.0 and is set largely within the range reaching 6.0. The technical result comprises improvement in the quality of metal undergoing the thermal processing as its melting loss can be significantly reduced when processed in the combustion furnace of either direct of indirect reheating. The hydrogen absorption level is reduced as well, including the alloys of aluminum, titanium and iron, owning to securing of an appropriate atmosphere composition (a gaseous phase) of products obtained from the burnt mixture between heated air with the liquid or gaseous fuel, when the values of an excess air factor exceed the value of 2.0. When using the invention in furnaces of the indirect reheating, the technical result stipulates an increase in maintenance of radiation tubes and open caps, an appropriate reduction in expenses for metal processing and prime costs necessary for the thermal processing of these metals.;EFFECT: reduction of expenses required for metal processing and increases in the quality of metals undergoing the thermal processing amelioration of the life cycle and duration of equipment.;9 cl, 12 dwg, 1 tbl, 9 ex
