The nut (7) is formed by a material deformation technique and comprises a nut body (1) and a pressure plate (8). The nut has a driving part (2) such as a multi edged section for use with a spanner and a mounting area (4) which joins to the pressure plate. The pressure plate has a central hole (10) into which a neck (3) projects which is formed as a one piece construction with the nut body. The nut body and the pressure plate are formed first by the deformation. The neck is then widened out to clamp the body to the pressure plate and the thread is then formed.
