A masonry fitting bolt has a metal shaft (12) with a threaded sections (13) at one end and with a spreading section with spreading profiles (18) at the other end. Plastic spreaders (21) of thermo plastic with a melting point above 250 deg. C ensure a secure grip in the event of fire. The thermoplastic melts and mixes with drilling debris to form a fire retarding plug. The thermo plastic has a strength of at least 100 Newtons per square mm. The thermo plastic is self lubricating with reduced friction on the inside facing the spreading profiles. Typical thermo plastics include PPS.
