The linear drive has a housing (10), an adjustable piston (12) in the housing, a pyrotechnic gas producer (14), a pressure chamber, a venting hole by which compressed gas from the pressure chamber escapes and a fusible catch element, which is adjustable between a resting position and a release position against a retaining strength. The catch element is from the outside destroyable by thermal effect, so that leaking out of the compressed gas is possible. A load relieving canal is provided which is locked by the catch element.
