The method involves functionally linking a vehicle e.g. motor vehicle (4), internal drive assistance device e.g. track guiding system (6), with a speed control (5) of the motor vehicle such that the cruising speed opted for the speed control is suppressed during activation of the drive assistance device. The speed control is functionally linked with a steering wheel movement sensor. An independent claim is also included for a device for implementing a method for increasing road safety.
