The method involves feeding gas heated by a burner (6) to an end of a radiating body e.g. radiating pipe (2), where the burner is operated with a constant power. Temperature of an outer side of the radiating body is determined by a sensor (16). The burner is switched on and switched off in periodic cycles of variable periods based on the temperature on the outer side of the radiating body and a default temperature value. An independent claim is also included for a device for performing a method for controlling radiating power of an infrared heater.
