The method involves impinging of monitoring lines with a high frequency current. The current is transferred to the sensor without direct contact by an electrical or magnetic field. The signal is transmitted from the sensor to a central station with the field. The electrical monitoring lines are fitted in the pipelines. An independent claim is also included for the sensor for detection of defects in underground pipelines for gaseous or liquid media.
