Process for extruding small plant material parts such as wood chips comprises unevenly pre-compressing the material in a pressing chamber (1) to eliminate the differences in compression caused by an extrusion die (10) and produce a uniformly or almost uniformly compressed extruded part. An independent claim is also included for a device for carrying out the above process comprising a rough-pressing die. Preferred Features: The pre-compressed extruded part has a lower density on the side of the extrusion die than on the side of the pressing nozzle.
