The device has a sensor module (22) positioned detachably on a carrier that is connected with a fixed part of a wheel bearing (10). The carrier exhibits a paramagnetic or diamagnetic metallic retaining ring (24), with which a metallic connecting unit (26) is locked at the sensor module. The retaining ring has a circulating edge area (34) with a cup-shaped cross section, in which the sensor module is lockably held. The retaining ring and a support plate are made of high-grade steel, where the sensor module is attached at an external wall of the ring.
