The method involves interrupting an internal combustion engine (2) and actuating an electric motor (3) during a recuperation operating condition. The electric motor is operated as a generator. A converter bypass clutch (9) is permanently closed between switching operations of a gear box (4) for bypassing a torque converter (8), during an electrical operating condition and/or the recuperation operating condition, such that kinetic energy of a drive train (1) is utilized for charging a current storage with reduced speed levels at a gear box input in the recuperation operation.
