The method involves performing complete operational step of stepping motor (1). A rotor (1b) is rotated in reverse rotational direction, till an exciter phase is attained. The exciter phase ascertains that the rotor does not rotate, where the rotation of rotor is effected in rotational direction, such that the driving element (2) is rotated in reverse rotational direction. A micro operational step is subjected from another excitation phase to a third excitation phase. The third excitation phase is shifted around micro operational step of the motor in the rotational direction of the rotor. An independent claim is also included for a device for detecting an initial exciter phase of a stepping motor.
