The adjuster varies the clearance between the fiber guide (2) and the thread-forming component (3) during spinning-on, or during the spinning operation itself. The adjuster comprises an actuator with a controller. The clearance is adjusted as a function of the thread type. The actuator has a finely-threaded adjustment mechanism, or a thread-like groove. The original clearance (a) and/or the amount (d) by which it is increased, is adjusted steplessly by varying the angle of rotation of the adjustment mechanism. A motor drives adjustment. It operates on a hydraulic, pneumatic or magnetic principle. The thread-forming component (3) is a spindle. The fiber guidance component (2) includes a guidance surface (4) with a fiber-feeding edge (5). For the purposes of spinning-on, or for attachment at the spinning station (1) of an air spinning machine, the original spacing (a) is increased. On completion, the spacing is reduced back to (a), which has a value of 0.2-0.4 mm. The increase (d) is 0.1-0.4 mm. An independent claim is included for the method of spinning-on or attachment at the spinning location.
