Procedure for the determination of the pH value and for measuring polarization potential of a sensor surface, comprises determining the potential for oxygen development on the sensor surface and continuously increasing the current flow
The procedure for the determination of the pH value in electrolytes (4) via a current flow between a counter electrode (3) and a sensor surface (1) and for measuring polarization potential of the sensor surface by measuring the voltage between a reference electrode (2) and the sensor surface with a voltage measuring device (6) after interrupting the flow, comprises determining the potential for the oxygen development on the sensor surface, continuously increasing the flow and introducing the flow in pulses or introducing by potentiostatical control. The current flow is produced by a current source (5). The counter electrode is simultaneously used as reference electrode. The cathodic and anodic charge quantities are equally large, flow through the sensor surface and result no pH change in electrolytes before the sensor surface. The measurement of the polarization potential takes place between ten nanoseconds to one second after interrupting the flow. The polarization potential is determined by computational correction of the voltage drop with the ohmic resistor of the measurement setup from the voltage difference between the sensor surface and reference electrode measured with the voltage measuring device. The sensor surface consists of an inert electrically conductive material in alkaline medium.
