The pump (1) has a pump shaft (20) that is connected with a pump rotor (7). A pump housing (6) includes a rotor opening (9) that is directed upwards in an operating position of the pump. The housing is provided on a side of the opening with a suction duct (13), which extends from the housing and surrounds the opening. The shaft is guided via a wall of the suction duct at a present distance to the housing. The duct includes an inlet opening (31) for biomass to be pumped, where the biomass lies above the rotor opening provided in the operating position of the pump in a duct direction.
