Claimed is a valve incorporating a filter that in the normal first operating mode allows the passage of water from an inlet to an outlet. In a second operating mode the valve allows the passage of water from the inlet through the filter to an outlet discharging in a direction opposite to the direction of flow from the inlet. In a third operating mode the valve temporarily changes from the first mode to the second mode. The filter is filter is cylindrical with an essentially radial water flow. The filter fitting has an inlet and an outlet that are coaxial with the filter insert. The filter outlet is essentially radial. In a further embodiment the fitting has a primary filter and a secondary filter that are joined by movable radial crosspieces that facilitate the change in direction of flow. The filter unit has fixed sleeves at each end.
