The method involves loading an electric motor (1) with output voltage (Ua1) of an amplifier (23) e.g. pulse width modulation (PWM) amplifier. The amplifier is supplied with a supply voltage (UV) that is measured by a measuring unit (25). The output voltage of the amplifier is determined based on operating parameters of the electric motor and the measured supply voltage. Supply voltage characteristics are determined and stored in a memory (22). An independent claim is also included for a device for operating a voltage-controlled electric motor.
