The device has an occupant sensor (IB), which produces a signal that represents a weight of occupants. An evaluation circuit e.g. microcontroller or microprocessor, detects collision based on temporal changes of the signals. The evaluation circuit has a threshold decider for comparing the temporal changes of the signals with a threshold. The evaluation circuit is additionally coupled with a crash sensor (CS). The time is counted, for which the temporal changes of the signals lies over the threshold. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a control device for detection of collision (2) a method for detection of collision.
