The coolant pump (1) has a housing (2), a pump shaft (3) supported in the housing in a pivoted manner, where front end (4,5) of the pump shaft projects from the housing and is connected over a looping impulse with a drive shaft of the internal combustion engine. A pump impeller is arranged within the housing at the opposite front end of the pump shaft. An adjustable friction clutch (6) is arranged at the opposite front end of the pump shaft, between the pump shaft and the pump impeller.
