The method involves the scanning the document which is guided with a variable transportation speed and a line frequency, with which individual cells are scanned. The line frequency is proportional to the product of transportation speed and the average of color value, so that an illustration with nominal dissolution is produced at decreased speed. The average of the color value is used automatically as function of the transportation speed. An independent claim is also included for optical scanning of documents.
