A variable-speed drive (3) comprises a drive motor and a downstream reduction gear, which has a positioning element to which the functional element (2) to be moved in or on a motor vehicle body (1) can be directly, or indirectly joined. The positioning element has a toothed rack or an arcuate toothed segment with which the drive pinion meshes. Movement of the positioning element is limited at least to one direction, by a stop in the reduction gear. The stop is formed on corresponding ends of the toothed rack or of the toothed segment and blocks further meshing of the drive pinion.
