The wood splitter (1) has a splitter unit (9) splitting the wood (10) and a press unit (5) that is movable opposite to the splitter unit, where the press unit presses the wood against the splitter unit. The wood splitter has a transportation belt (4) for transporting the wood that is to be split, where the transportation belt rotates around two guide rollers (6, 7). The press unit or the splitter unit stays in force-fit connection with the transportation belt. An independent claim is also included for a method for splitting of wood.
